The Portuguese star reveals the secret of the handshake between Ronaldo and Fernandes
The secret of the handshake between Ronaldo and Fernandes
Portugal midfielder Joao Mario said on Tuesday that the controversial handshake between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes was the result of a joke between the Manchester United duo.
In a video clip, there appeared to be a lukewarm relationship between Ronaldo and Fernandes yesterday, Monday, and the snapshot was quickly spread on social media, which sparked speculation about the impact of their relationship with an exclusive interview conducted by Ronaldo, in which he talked about being "betrayed" by United.
Fernandes appears in the video touching Ronaldo's arm when he passed in front of him in the players' room, and Cristiano offered a handshake, and Bruno accepted it reluctantly for a short time without looking long at his colleague.
"I was there and saw everything. It was a funny moment and it was misunderstood outside," Joao Mario said at a press conference in Lisbon on Tuesday.
"It was a joke between them because Bruno was late, he was the last one to arrive, and Cristiano told him if he had come using the boat."
"I understand that the pictures can be interpreted in different ways, but it was a joke between them. They have a great relationship because they play together, and I watched them all day yesterday and there is no problem between them."
Joao Mario does not believe that meeting Ronaldo will cause any distraction in the players' room and sees the time spent with the national team as a safe space for him.
"There is no extra pressure. We are all used to dealing with big pressures because we play for big clubs."
"Playing in the World Cup is a dream for many and only makes us feel more responsible. I don't think the match will add any pressure to him or anyone else."
